We currently don’t have plans to share. We built the first house, are working on the second one. We took a break, redesigned the third house and are beginning that as of Martin Luther King Jr Day 2014. Once we have built the third house we will make the plans available. Sign up below to get notification of the plans being done or to ask specific questions about the houses.
What hoops does one have to jump through to get a piece of land to put 30 of these portable homes on? It seems like it would have to be a unincorporated piece of land.
Rezoning to a planned development
We are rezoning the property to a planned development.
Churches properties are another great place for these developments. In Seattle there is a city-funded project to get churches to allow for “safe parking” of overnight vehicles in their lots to help people who are living in their cars or RVs. Religious organizations can get around a lot of codes when it comes to sheltering homeless people by claiming that it is a part of their faith to welcome and care for neighbors in need without government interference. You can even have a church lease a piece of property for $1 to make it part of their tax-exempt estate. http://madronagrace.org/ministries/nimby/
I believe this is a great way to get the homeless community back on their feet along with counseling n childcare
Are these available to anyone or just the homeless?
Since the need is so great, just for people without homes or losing their homes, at this time.
Images of exteriors, interiors and the area surrounding each home would greatly enhance this website.
Interior is here: http://occupymadisoninc.com/about/documents/
