Items we need for building houses and building store items

  • Cordless electric drills or screw guns or other power tools (jigsaw, circular saw, sawzall, etc)
  • Hand tools
  • Squares, tape measures, staple guns, carpenters pencils, sharpies, etc.
  • Work gloves for volunteers
  • Bottled water and snacks for volunteers
  • Untreated Dimensional Lumber (minimum length 6’) 1×4; 1×6; 2×4 ; 2×6; 2×8; 2×10; 2×12; 4×4
  • Plywood (minimum size 4’x4’; please no OSB or Particle Board) 3/8”CDX; ½” CDX; ½” MDO
  • Bulls Eye or Kilz Paint Primer
  • Hardwoods: Cherry, Walnut, Hickory, Hackberry, Elm, Locust, Ash (we accept scraps for crafts and woodworking)
  • Other (please confirm we can use it before dropping off, we have a small space to store it in!)
  • Beads, yarn, wire (16-22 gauge), jewelry hardware, pottery clay, uv resin, etc. for crafting
  • Gardening tools, potting soil and planting containers (large outside or small house plant)
  • Upright freezer (not a chest freezer)
  • Pick Up Truck
  • Passenger Van

Residents would welcome the following donations

  • Laundry Soap & Dryer Sheets
  • Dish washing liquid, kitchen towels and sponges/scrubbies
  • Cleaning sprays, vinegar, bleach (for showers and bathrooms)
  • Toilet paper, paper towels
  • Silverware and dishes (plates, cups, glasses, etc)
  • Bus tickets and gas cards
  • Towels and bedding
  • Socks, long underwear, new under garments for men and women
  • Toiletries (shampoo, conditioners, feminine products, soaps, lotions, etc)

Please only items in good condition, we have to take many trips to the dump! And, storage is limited, please contact occupymadisoninc@gmail.com or call in advance 608-305-4707, if you have other donations for people without homes please contact Feeding the State St. Family or Madison Street Medicine.)

  1. We would like to help and would like to help design some to look like log homes. We have the wood cut already and they are very quaint.
